STEM Introduction to Electronics & Soldering

Grades 6–12

Course Overview
This hands-on STEM course introduces students to the fundamentals of electronics and soldering. Students learn how electronic components work, how circuits are designed, and how to safely assemble projects using soldering tools. Through guided instruction and practical builds, learners gain real-world technical skills while developing confidence in engineering and problem-solving.

No prior experience is required. Instruction is adapted for multiple skill levels, making the class accessible and challenging for all students.

What Students Will Learn

Electronics Fundamentals

  • Understanding electricity, current, voltage, and resistance

  • Reading simple circuit diagrams and schematics

  • Identifying and using common electronic components:
     

    • Resistors

    • LEDs

    • Capacitors

    • Switches

    • Buzzers and motors
       

Circuit Building Skills

  • Building circuits on breadboards

  • Exploring series and parallel circuits

  • Testing and troubleshooting circuit behavior

  • Understanding how components work together in a system

Soldering Skills & Safety

  • Proper soldering iron use and safety procedures

  • Making clean, reliable solder joints

  • Connecting components to circuit boards

  • Desoldering and correcting mistakes

Hands-On Projects

  • LED light projects

  • Simple electronic games or alarms

  • Functional circuits students can take home

  • Optional creative or challenge-based builds

Grade Levels & Skill Progression
